The NADA Protocol

Dr. Michael Smith recently amended the NADA protocol to three needles
Sympathetic -
Shen men
Lung -
please see the video made by NADA India for more information

Needling of five points in the ear that effects the body to detox from any addictive substance. Helps the body to self regulate from the effects of stress, PTSD, depression and anxiety, helping the individual to focus and enable them to deal with daily events. The protocol has been adopted for treatment during and after critical events to treat large populations dealing with displacement and anxiety .
The protocol which has become know as the NADA Protocol (National Acupuncture Detox Association) was developed in the 1970's at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx under the supervision of Dr Michael Smith and has been used World Wide. It has come to be an effective, inexpensive treatment procedure in the treatment of alcohol and drug withdrawal.

As you can see, the needles are just a bit thicker than a hair causing little or no pain on insertion

1. SYMPATHETIC - Autonomic Nervous System - fight or flight this response to preceived danger evokes great anxiety and translates into a powerful stress response in the mind, nervous system and organs of the body
Related Emotions Anxiety as opposed to Calmness

2. SHEN MEN - Spirit Gate - this point alleviates anxiety, controls nervousness, has a general relaxing effect and helps to bring the "Spirit Heart" into balance for a Conscious Self
Impatiences - Mood swings - Cruelty
as opposed to Joy - Calm - Honor

3. KIDNEY - Essential Energy - Source of Yin and Yang this point alleviates toxicity from the kidneys from chemical use. Purifies the blood and strengthens the nervous system. Calms fears and removes insecurities. As the source of Yin and Yang energy, it is related to the Life Force and Longevity
Fear - Paranoia - Anguish
as opposed to Awareness - Gentleness

4.LIVER - Emotional Balance - Rules the flow of Chi - this point alleviates toxicity in the blood in conjunction with the Kidneys. Balance of Liver energy increases emotional balance for relaxation and confidence. Stabilizes impulsive behavior and mood swings.
Anger - Rage - Depression
as opposed to Kindness - Balance

5. LUNG - Life Force Balance - Rules Chi - This point alleviates toxicity in the immune system, respiration and skin function and promotes physical balance and the expression of feelings - especially sadness. Also promotes relaxation. This is a nourishing organ involved in the very balance of the Life Force itself.
Grief - Sadness as oppose to Courage - Righteousness

Questions for the group

I found your group on the internet. I am an acupuncturist working in Toronto, Canada. I am interested to learn more about your trips to Vietnam and Cambodia. I have teenage daughters, so I may not be able to go for a couple years, but it is of interest. Some of my questions include...are there set dates for 2010 yet? I imagine that people pay their own way to Vietnam. Once there, does the group stay together? Where do you stay? Seems you move around. How much of the time there is… Continue

Natural Hand Sanitizer -

With the Swine Flu attention in the West we have come to realize the importance of washing our hands over and over again -
the commercial hand sanitizers are not always the first choice here is a concoction endorsed by Paul L Law,Brooklyn South Community Emergency Response Team Logistics Section

water less version - more of a hand cream version
start with a cup of Aloe Vera Gel add a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol
mix in 2 teaspoons of glycerin and add 10 drops tea tree oil and 10 drops lavender essential oil

water version - if you are using a spray bottle
2 parts aloe vera gel
1 part grain alcohol - or vodka
1 part distilled water - (don't worry about the type of water)
10 drops tea tree oil
10 drops lavender

as you can see this is similar to the concoction suggested for the trip - well hope no one get the swine flu the precaution of washing hands is a good one
